Hello everyone,

I want to help out new players to the game and that's why I created this overview of helpful information. You may think that this is a lot of information, but underline if you take the time to read the following notes, you'll know much more about Romero's Aftermath and you'll get a bunch of tips and tricks about game mechanics, hidden features and more.

First of all, I want to clarify: What is Romero's Aftermath about?

Survive against the odds in a giant sandbox MMO world featuring lush forests, dry desert plains, peaceful meadows and the eerie zombies that inhabit the world.

Scavenge for guns, supplies, survival items and crafting materials in various zones including cities, farms, military bases, abandoned outposts, forgotten rest stops and hundreds of small encampments left behind by survivors before you.

Build and protect your shelter, harvest crops, learn crafting blueprints and store your items on our server in your Global Inventory or hide them in a stash box in the world.

Be a civilian, a trader, a protector of peace, a ruthless bandit or combination of them all. Customize your character with hundreds of visual cosmetic items including Headwear, Facewear, Shirts, Jackets and Pants. Swap your cosmetic items at any time on the fly, unlock weapon skins and show everyone in a safezone that you know where to find the rare items.

Steam game description - 09/29/15

What Romero's Aftermath is not about...

Romero's Aftermath puts the focus back on FUN and doesn’t try to be a real-life simulation (c’mon, there are zombies in the game). Players can explore, scavenge craft and fight instead of worrying about twisting an ankle stepping out a window or breaking a leg jumping over a fence.

Steam game description - 09/29/15

Creating a Character - First Game Start

When you start the game the first time, it will ask you to create a Character. This means, you have to choose a name that you would like to use in the game. This character will be used for all servers. You only have one character and you can't change the name of your character after you have selected it. Maybe there will be a option to change the name, but then you'll need to pay for it. So think about your character name before you give it a bad name.
The name should match the common decency and should be free of sexist, offensive or racist content.

Server List and Server Types

You can open the Server list by clicking the "Play Game" Button in the top centre. At the right side, you'll see bunch of filters. Yet, there are two Server Regions available - EU and US.
Beside the two server regions, there are four Server types available at the moment.

- PvE
"These are Player vs Environment (PVE) servers that are intended for survival gameplay without PvP combat. Players CANNOT deal damage to each other and CANNOT damage base building objects. There are no time restrictions on PVE servers, anyone can play with their friends."
PvE Servers have less loot than PvP Servers, Zombies have 20% more health and are respawning 1.5x faster. Additional to this, liberation drops have less valuable loot in Supply Drops.

- PVP Novice
"These are Novice Player vs Player (PVP) servers that require LESS THAN 15 hours of gameplay and are intended for survival gameplay with a hint of bloodshed. Other players CAN and WILL attempt to kill you on these servers. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED."

- PVP Veteran
"These are Veteran Players vs Player (PVP) servers that require MORE THAN 15 hours of gameplay and are intended for survival gameplay with a hint of bloodshed. Other players CAN and WILL attempt to kill you on these servers. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED."

- Legendary
These are Legendary only Servers with both, PVE and PVP servers available. These servers require you to buy the legendary upgrade in the package store.
There is no difference in Loot.

Chatcommands / Scrolling in Chat / Group Management

There are a few Chatcommands that you should know. Some are to get information about your reputation or other stats and some are for group management.
You can scroll up in the chat window by pressing page up or page down after pressing enter.

Here is a list of all Chatcommands available at the moment.

/help // this will show you a list of all commands
/ginvite "player name" // this command invites a player to a group. if you are in a group already, then only the group leader can invite more players
/gaccept "player name" // with this command you'll accept a group invite you got by a player
/gleave // with this command you can leave your current group
/rep // will show your current reputation level
/stats // will show your character statistic like playtime in hours, kills and death

Important: You need to type the "" symbols of the group management system. In example, If I would like to invite sergeytitov in my group, then I would need to type in chat:

/ginvite "sergeytitov"

and he would need to accept it with

/gaccept "Aljoscha"

Items / Crafting materials

There are tons of items in the game. Some can be used directly - in example meds, food and water. Some other items can be disassembled by right-clicking on the item in your inventory and then press "disassemble". Then you'll get different items you can use for crafting.

There are factory made guns and factory made bullets to find in the world. But you can also craft some guns and bullets.

Crafted guns and bullets are weaker then factory made ones.

Same for meds. There are meds you can only find and there are meds you can craft. Crafted meds are weaker then the ones you can only find (ie antibiotics and medikits)

How can I Craft something? / What are Blueprints?

You can craft Items by using the crafting menu. You can open the crafting menu by pressing the "Crafting" Button in the top when your Inventory is opened.

In the Crafting menu you can see all items that you can craft and what items you need for it. You can also see if you have learned how you can craft it.

If you haven't learned it yet, then a small lock icon will be shown. Otherwise you'll see the amount of items you are able to craft right now.

You can learn crafting recipes by reading blueprints. Blueprints are items you can find in the world. Some are rare, some are more common. Best chance to find Blueprints is in tents and in military bases. As soon as you have find a blueprint, you can learn it by right-clicking in the Inventory menu and then press "Learn".

You only need to learn a blueprint once. Learned recipes can be used on all server types and forever - even if you died.

Liberation / Generators / Supply Drops / Refill Gas Pods

Liberation is one of the coolest new features in the game so far. You can liberate several towns and military camps that are marked on the map. Liberating a town means to liberate the town from zombies. So you have to kill all zombies around to complete the liberation.
Additional to this, you have to activate all the generators in the town, before you start killing the zombies. You need to repair and fuel the generators to activate them. Each generator requires one wrench for repairing and a full gas pod to fuel it. You have to do this with all the generators in the town.
You can fuel gas pods if you are near the pump station at a gas station. To fuel a empty gas pod, you need to open your Inventory, right-glick the empty gas-pod and press Refill.
Full Gas Pods won't disappear after using it. They just turn into a empty one. So you can use it again and again.

As soon as you have liberated a town, you'll receive a skin-gift and Supply Drops will land in the liberated town in regular intervals.

Liberation rewards are as follows:

- Abandoned Mill (Tier 1 supply drop, Tier 1 reward)
- Forsaken Fort (Tier 1 supply drop, Tier 1 reward)
- Bluefield Airport (Tier 1 supply drop, Tier 1 reward)
- Luton (Tier 1 supply drop, Tier 2 reward)
- Kosvile (Tier 1 supply drop, Tier 2 reward)
- Bamburg (Tier 2 supply drop, Tier 3 reward)
- Stawford city (Tier 3 supply drop, Tier 4 reward)

Airdrops

Airdrops look same like Supply Drops. They drop random on the map and can have rare items inside.

Refill Water Bottles / Purify Water

You can refill empty water bottles if you are in the water. For example you can go to a river and open your Inventory. Right-Click the Empty Water Bottle and then press "Refill". You'll get dirty water that you can purify thru two different ways. First way is by using prufication tablets. If you have some purification tablets in your inventory, just go to the dirty water bottle, right-click it and then press "Purify".
For the second way, you need to own a campfire. Put the campfire in one of your quickslots, select the quickslot and then place the campfire by pressing the left mouse button. Now you need to get near the campfire, open your inventory, right-click the dirty water bottle and press "Purify".
Campfires will hurt you if you are inside the fire, but they will also heal you if you are near to it.

Load Ammo / Attach a Skin

You can load different types of ammo to a gun. Most guns can use either factory made ammo aswell as crafted ammo. To change between these types and to load one type to your magazine, you need to press the "F6" key on your keyboard  when holding the gun and select the ammo you want to load.
Same goes for skins. You can see a list of all skins that are available for the gun you are holding in your hands by pressing the "F6" key on your keyboard. You will see all the skins you own and you can change between all skins you own.

Cooking / Clear Water Stations

There are some food items that you can cook. In example Raw Meat and some sorts of can of food.
To do so, you need to place a campfire like you need to do it to purify water and move your character next to it. Then you need to open your Inventory, go to the item you want to cook, right-click it and press "cook".

If you don't have purification tablets or a campfire to purify water, then you can go to one of the secret clear water stations in the world. They are placed in safezones, some military camps, at the airport and one or two in the world. You will recognize them when you see the solar panel that is connected with the water tank. If you are inside this water tank and you are refilling your empty water bottles (by right-clicking the empty bottles in the inventory and then pressing "refill"), you'll get CLEAR water. So you don't need to purify the water.

Base Building

You can start building your own base on all servers, but it makes no sense to start building a base on Novice Servers, because after you reach 15 hours gametime, you won't be able to join the Server anymore.
So my tip is to build your own Base on Veteran Servers, Legendary Servers or PVE Servers only.
To do so, you need to open the Building Mode by pressing "B" on your keyboard. First, you need to claim land by placing a statue. You can claim three lands at all for all servers. So if you claimed one on Legendary Servers, you can only claim two more on other servers.

As soon as you have claimed your land, you can start building your base by using different walls, foundations and other components. After placing it, you can see the wall or whatever you placed in transparent. This means that you need to add all the items to the construction to finally build it. A little tip here too: You can scroll down the list sometimes and then you'll see some more items you need to add (only sometimes).

Bases will begin to decay if you are offline for 7+ days [168+ hours]

WORK IN PROGRESS...

You should fix the "Liberation rewards".

Check my post to see the updated table of loot for rewards, and with the new cities that got added recently too.

well since veterans are not able to play on novice servers anymore, the new players have a hard start, because no veterans can answer their questions :D

Truely great tips! Hope you dont mind me posting a couple of tips in here too (feel free to grab em & add your own version if you want to) ;)

EDIT: looks like the servers are changing so the below stuff may be obsolete, except that PVP servers still has better loot.

How does Servers and GI work? You only only have one character in this game but you can jump from server to server and still keep the items you are carrying. Only on PVP servers do you get access to the Global Inventory (GI) and can sell items to the ingame store. PVE servers dont have GI access at all and you can only buy from the ingame store too.

Is there a difference in server loot? PVP servers has slightly better loot and only here can you do liberations. PVE servers have slightly lower quality loot & you cant do liberations .. but you also cant be killed by other players. Note that Beginner, Prime & Legendary servers currently is exactly the same too when it comes to loot.

Melee against a zombie: Best way to take on a zombie with a melee is clearly to strafe either left or right while repeatedly hitting it (aka dont step backward as it will still hit you). Melee'ing a zombie is best done in First person view ("C" key changes between 1st & 3rd person view) as  your reach is longer & your target bigger & the swinging weapon animation are more accurate. Later you may also want to learn how to kill zombies in 3rd person as its better for pvp, However do be prepared that some of the swing animations is a bit weird in 3rd person. One way or the other aim for the top of the zombies head as "headshots" does double damage. Note that a higher damage melee weapon isnt always better as a speedy attack from a lesser damage weapon mean you can repeatedly stun the zombie before it attacks if you time it right. Never forget to sidestep thought.

Random small tips:
-Hitting a beartrap trap with a melee will deactivate it.
-Emptying out another players backpack on the ground will spawn the backpack so you can pick it up.
-Numlock is the auto sprint key.
-"X"-key changes firerate. Like clicking it while having a sabrewolf and the little orange bullet icon will change between single fire & full auto.
-Cosmetic chest keys are very very small .. infact so small it may "hide" inside the body of a dead zombie.
-Cosmetic chests can be tranfered directly to your GI by using the left-click menu on the item in your inventory.
-Blueprints is know to be split into 3 areas of the map. So if you are having trouble finding one, try a different part of the map.
-These items dosnt drop when you die (aka when you respawn they will still be in your backpack): Cosmetic chests, cosmetic keys, tools, parts, small & large stash chests & unopened skins.
